- 5 - The New Epic Unfolds. Welcome to Southern Cross: The Forbidden Land

- The Soul Plague kills one in every twenty-five people across the world.
- Glacious emerges in the Northern Lands, and devastates Tifa's Crossing and Kalm. The Battle Of The Dark City rages for a week, and eventually, Glacious's forces are shattered, but Glacious remains alive, lurking in his heavily guarded fortress of Ice.
- House Whitehand is named Royal House of Highwind Point. Temple Whitehand is named the Grand Prince of Highwind Point.
- The first steam locomotive begins operation, in the southern Empire, and later in the year, the first train robbery occurs.

- The Soul Plague is cured by Doctor Kagane, ushering in the development of Aural Medicine based off of the early theories of Longu, a humble apothecary assistant.
- The flying shuttle is invented and revolutionizes cloth-making.
- During the summer of 1027 AH, Gaia is witnessed by those in tune with her to cry out in joy, the first such recorded cry in history. The cause of this, unknown to most: A Cetra has been fully born and realized, and the bearer Holy once again walks the land.
- Imperial outposts in the Barbarian lands begin to be lost to an organized barbarian army.
- During a time and Void nexus, for the period of six weeks, the North lands are cut off from all contact with the mainland.
- On Phoenix the 3rd, 1027, a great face appeared in the sky, seen and heard across the entire world, and spoke an invitation seeking audience with the higher powers of the world. It is unknown at this point what powers, if any, accepted this invitation.
- Valente enters a golden age.
- Reinforced Concrete moves from a curiosity to an established material, used both militarily and by civil engineers.
- A WEAPON is sighted in the north lands; within a week, it crushes the last outpost of Glacious, and then disappears.
- Temple Whitehand abdicates the throne, returning it to Queen Gabreielle Whitehand.

- Doctor Kagane publishes the "The Fertile Orchard", which include principles of modern agricultural fertilization. The Empire enters an age of modern agriculture.
- Doctor Kagane publishes "The Principles of Modern Sanitation", and with the invention of the Microscope by Nitro Revilgizz, confirms the early theory of "microbeasts". The Empire enjoys another revolution in medicine.
- Cormac Alair, husband to Queen Gabreielle, is crowned King.
- The Grand Summoner chooses to end her life, leaving her brother, the child king of the Barbarians, alone.
- The Great Pact dissolves; without it, no formal agreement between mortals and spirits governing pacts and behavior can exist.
- Kefka returns from his banishment, and occupied Highwind Point. Warmech and Alexander battle; Alexander is driven back.
- The brief reign of Kefka the Mad ensues over Highwind Point. A day of Chaos is recorded in the annals of the Merchant Guild, where all creators fashioned items randomly instead of the desired recipes.
- The brief reign of Kefka the Mad is ended by a coordinated assault between House Whitehand, Church Knight, and House Skye forces. The destruction of the Skye airship, laden with explosives, combined with the ferocious counter-stroke by Warmech, destroys nearly half of Highwind Point, with casualties in the dozens. Kefka is struck down by Gilgamesh in an unguarded moment, caused by Geosha bursting onto the roof.
- Most of the immigrant inhabitants take in the scope of destruction, and declare it a failed colony. More than three quarters of the immigrant population abandon the town, many for the warmer shores of sunny Valente...
- A New Saga Begins! Southern Cross: Honore ante los Familia!

- The Day of the Northern Sun occurs. All Shades, everywhere, are finally and totally purged from Gaia.

- A year later, and most of the population has settled into Valente comfortably.
- A new Cetra walks the land, somewhere.
- The first records of The Path United begin.
- The first records of The Circle of Twelve begin.
- A minor miracle is recorded in the Cathredale; a woman named Seya who had taken a vow of vegetarianism had been struck a few days later by a wrath of gaia, compelling her to eat meat and only meat. Miraculously, after weeks of fasting and prayer, holding to her vow, and slowly starving, the blessing of Gaia's Wrath falls upon her again... only to reverse the curse, and cause her to wish to eat vegetables and fruits only. The miracle is eventually recognized by the Church.
- The TeleAudioGraph is invented and demonstrated for the first time. It's seen as an impractical curiosity, with better magical means of communication readily available.
- A year-long drought in Valente begins and ends, ruining the summer crop, but causing little more than temporary hardship and some minor water riots.
- Leviathan still cannot be contacted ever since the ending of the Great Pact.
- Gaia once again cries out in joy. A time of WEAPONs is once more upon the land.
- Known only to a very few, a new Cetra walks the land, primed and finished. Holy is assured.
- The Child King stages his first mainland offensive upon the Imperial mainland, besieging the capital.
- In Odin the 3rd, after careful testing, the summoners of Santa Meringia pierce the veil, making travel to the Spirit World easier. The device enabling this was invented by Duster Mewrll.
- Ley-Lines surge, on the 26th of Typhoon 1031. Shortly thereafter, the first recorded Materia Shard Rain is recorded, as well as the first recorded eruptions of Mist.
- Fault lines and Ley Lines across Gaia open, showering the land in a rain of small materia shards. Countless of these shards fall all over the land.
- Mist bisects the cities of Rurik in the Empire, and Taipo in Wutaii.
- Ocean levels continue to drop sharply, portending catastrophe.

- The Siege of New Junon is broken. The Barbarian armies flee and Emperor Eliot embarks on a mission of extermination of the Barbarian Lands.
- A red mage in Santa Meringia, Trisana D'Marco reinvents Materia Orbs, using the materia shards.
- The empire lays siege to Thrain on the Barbarian continent. Some dissent in the imperial army is noted due to Eliot's practice of using heretical weapons.
- The Western-Imperial War draws the attention of two WEAPONS, neither of which act on the battles, but come to watch the proceedings from miles away. By silent agreement, both sides steadfastly avoid the areas the WEAPONS move to, both sides fearing the tremendous might of Gaia's fury.
- The worldwide development of Gaia Crystals encourages civilization as a whole to tend to Gaia's will more, and provide glimpses of insight into her thoughts.
- Wern, the famed historian, writes potent letters of criticism surrounding Emperor Elliot's actions in the West, including the decision of employing Genocide as a military tactic. Political stability within the Empire begins to show signs of weakness.
- During a pitched battle for the city of Thrain, an entire regiment of Imperial soldiers threw down their weapons and defected, in outcry of being asked to use heretical weapons. While the soldiers are wanted for desertion, the Empire endures another highly public embarassment.
- The Wutaiin Capital city is devastated and utterly destroyed by a tremendous tidal wave, the largest ever recorded in the history of Gaia.
- Leviathan is freed from his capture, and the waters of the world begin to restore themselves.
- The 'March of the Damned', a tremendous uprising of monstrous forces, counter-assaults the Imperial forces besieging Thrain, and drives them back a few miles.
- The Holy Church establishes a system for War Orphans; and children of the west who have lost family to imperial assault are being given to homes throughout the world.
- Emperor Elliot himself enters the fray, leading ongoing battles within the West.
- A radical new research proposal founded on Gaia-centric philosophies begins to take root, suggesting that all creatures, not merely certain species, may be capable of throughly communing with Gaia.
- House DelRenessa, originally a Valentian house but part of the backbone of the Imperial nobility for centuries, withdraws entirely from the Empire in protest of the war in the West and the actions there undertaken.
- A Great Wyrm, one of only three known, is slain. "Mountain Swimmer", before dying, inflicted grievous wounds upon two of the Empire's famed Magitech Knights, forcing their withdraw from the war.
- The city of Drominham joins the chorus of voices protesting the war in the West.
- The famed Chimes of Mesa Azure are stolen by the Pirates of the Crimson Hand. The beloved national treasure's theft sets the country's tolerance of piracy to an all time low.
- The Spirit World's lords strike a mortal blow upon Imperial forces in their ongoing war upon Thrain; citing the Paling encircling the Empire's lands, blocking their influence, they have struck in turn upon the mortal forces as punishment for their interference. Emperor Elliot survives the assault with the aid of another Magitech Knight; managing to capture an incarnation of Titan during the battle. However, the Imperial forces are forced, finally, to abandon the continent.
- The Santa Meringia shipyards resume production. Valente independence goes from a rumour to a reality, with the declaration of independence expected within days.
- Mist eruptions continue to plague the world, drawing new monstrous entities, and new possibilities.
- The Diary of the Santa Meringia Shelter lends new insight into Pre-Holy times, and the origin of the Viera and Nu Mou species and cultures. The results are published as the Meringia Bunker Log is published for public consumption.

- Shipyards across Valente reopen and begin swiftly manufacturing naval ships, taking advantage of the Empire's preoccupation with the war. The reconstruction of the Royal Valente Navy begins.
- The Empire announces the creation of 4 new Magitech Knights, created by the process of Materia infusion. These are the first mention of Materia Knights in the annals of history.
- Noble Houses of the Empire begin to stir in response to the ongoing acts of the Highwind Empire, most notably house Blackburne and house Ambrai.
- The Merchant Guild adopts the Valentian language as the official trade language of the world.
- A Ley Line Map of the world was unveiled to Mages Guild researchers, by the moogle Hanare McLeod.
- Ultima WEAPON briefly breaches the Spirit Paling around Junonsburg, passing north of the city by about fifteen miles, putting the city on high alert.
- Worldwide spring crop shortages are noted, and earthquake and other tectonic activity has risen sharply.
- The early summer brings the second wave of Western offensive to the western point of Valente; and from there, swinging north to the Empire.
- The Valentian Royal Navy begin to raid the western supply lines heavily, and eventually forces repel the foothold on Valente entirely.
- A plot to use Emerald WEAPON against Junonsburg is discovered by the Valentian forces, and is swiftly disrupted by judicious action on the part of the Valente navy and its citizenship.
- After both the Western forces and the Empire send invitations of military allegiance, Valente declares a strict policy of "aggressive neutrality", firing on foreign naval forces that breach Valentian territorial waters.
- A great Nexus of Change is read in the stars; a time of great and fortuitous changes begin!
- Disturbed by an assault by Emerald WEAPON, the undersea Mer are finally coming to the surface of the waves in numbers.
- The Crimson Claw, The Pirate King Prisidium, is finally captured and put to death after thirty years of terrorizing valentian seas. The national treasures stolen by the man have been returned to Valente.
- The Western forces make landfall west of Fort Phoenix, and begin their march northwards, neatly skirting much of the Imperial navy's defenses.
- Due to the Gabbiani Solution, that employed the remaining pirates of Valente as lawful Privateers raiding the western supply lines, the town of Serra Ossa is founded, intended to cater to and serve these barely-legal brigands.
- The Empire launches an assault via a team of Magitech Knights upon Ultima WEAPON, killing it thirty-five miles north-east of Santa Meringia. One surving imperial Magitech Knight Juraal, was hunted down and killed by Valentian forces.
- The spirit Valefor is released from its centuries of imprisonment.
- In the mid-autumn, the Western forces, too weak to engage Junonsburg, assaulted Drominham, and was met by Thitanius and legions of Imperial soldiers. As the battle progressed, the Esper Bellatrix emerged onto the battlefield, and slaying both forces indiscriminately, single-handedly killed over two thousand western and imperial soldiers, and then duelled and destroyed Thitanius. The spirit of Titan was revealed and freed; and a Sending was conducted by Ramdas Pramath and his squire, Angel .
- With Titan's Sending, all of Gaia suffers a minor earthquake for about a half hour, and then calms.
- The Holy Church captures an Imperial military research station, and uncovers numerous heresies and war crime acts, including the creation of a nearly-finished Materia Bomb, the holding of hundreds of magicites from dead Espers, and forty-eight exactly identical children.
- Furious by the crimes uncovered, the noble houses of the Empire put the Ministry of Law into effect over the furious protests of the emperor Elliot Highwind. The Ministry of Law assumes control of most of the Magitech knight forces, and begins to manufacture their own Magicite Knights to enforce Imperial law, even against the Highwind Imperial Family, if need be.
- Valente's demands for reparations are met by the Ministry of Law; twenty Materia Knights of Valente's selection are created, and the means to create Materia Knights distributed to them.
- Valente matches the creation of the Ministry of Law and enacts it, under the sole control of the Don's Council of Valente.
- During the Winter Festivale, the Wutaiin civil war of 15 years comes to an end; Yi-Tae Kisargi, once a Guard-Captain, is named by Leviathan himself as Emperor of Wutaii. The Mandate of Heaven is restored, as a byproduct of the efforts of the Summoner Jiraat.

- Kefka is freed from his imprisonment due to a botched assassination attempt by the Mages Guild.

- The VS Falcon crashes into Luna Island during its maiden voyage. Ship had a large 300 man compliment consisting of nobles and commoners of all nations, and some convicts bound to Drominham. All hands presumed lost.
