Esper Castle

The Esper Castle is perhaps the most mysterious part of the entire Esper Forest. Largely because no visitor can ever seem to find it, and nobody in the forest who might known anything is ever willing to speak on the subject. This state of affairs has lead to the Esper Castle taking on an almost legendary image to the outside world, some sort of unimaginable, shining palace, and a storehouse of all the wealth and knowledge ever accumulated by the faerie.

In actuality however, the answer to the mystery of the Esper Castle's location is very simple indeed - it doesn't exist. Not within the world of mortals at any rate. The only thing in the 'real' world that has anything to do with the Esper Castle at all is its gate, and even that is hidden and completely invisible, its location perhaps the second most tightly guarded secret of the whole Esper Court.

The actual castle, the home of the Esper Monarch, is in so far as it is classifiable a world all of its own. It is in fact a bubble, a small, enclosed section of reality within but cut off from the Spirit Realm, and although the many windows of the castle always shed light.. nothing but light can ever be seen through them. It is, normally, a place of tranquility into which only the Nobility may freely enter, and only the trusted Commoners and higher may know the means of accessing.

The Esper castle is a great natural edifice, seemingly built by 'asking' the inside of some great but invisible tree to form itself into an accommodating shape within the bubble realm, and it has, all throughout the long history of the Esper Court and perhaps longer, remained an unbreachable sanctuary. However, even if one were to enter its halls searching for the rumoured treasures and knowledge accumulated by the Espers over their history and from before, they would not find them. Within the Library, simply the usual fare one might expect from a slightly esoteric national library, but nothing special. And in the Castle Treasury even less - just the little money the court has use for, some materials for any projects that might be ongoing, and most of all an array of botanical items from seeds to young plants and tools. Strangely, though, most of the Treasury is given over to a large, bare, totally smooth piece of rock. Certainly, there is a deeper mystery here, to which some far more rarely known legends might point..

Only on occasions of the most extreme rarity has anyone below Commoner, or a visitor within the court, been allowed to enter the living halls, although there was one time that the castle played true to its sanctuary role in the most extreme way possible - into its winding chambers and halls was evacuated the entire civilian population of the Esper Forest, to keep those unable to fight safe whilst the most climatic battle of the defense against Emperor Elliot's genocidal campaign against the faerie raged about the forest, immediately outside and surrounding the castle gates.
