General Character Attributes
Kagane is an honorable monk of the Yamabushi order, originally an order of wilderness warrior monks, known for their long pilgrimages through the wilds, communing with the kami (spirits) of trees and stones, marking and blessing holy places that they find. Kagane was born in approximately 980 AH, and was brought at a young age to the yamabushi monastary about three hours west of the Capital. There he was raised, as a monk and scholar, and first struck out into the world in the year 1004 AH.
Heart of the Empire Backstory
He initially found employment as a humble schoolteacher, but his brilliant writings and revolutionary educational methods brought about an empire-wide change in teaching methods. His book, simply titled "Teaching Methodologies", is now to be found on nearly every professor's bookshelf throughout the Empire, and has even been translated to Wutaiin for export there, where it has been warmly received. Across the next few years, Kagane's intellectual star would rise and shine brightly, books from his pen on a wide range of topics being eagerly published throughout the empire, and he became minorly famous as a perceived up-and-coming Sage. His focus on wholistic learning; on topic as commonplace as brawl tactics, to as esoteric as scientific medicine, brought him wide acclaim, and his works are studied in more than one major University of the Empire.
In approximately 1007 AH, Kagane courted and was betrothed to the famed Grand Summoner [Silverleaf], but for reasons never publically discussed, the marriage was annulled after two weeks. Unknown to any for a long time, Kagane and Silverleaf finally annulled the marriage when Silverleaf found that even despite her love for the elk, she could not bear to face her fear of mating brought on by her sister's taunting and terrorizing of her at a young age. Doomed to a passionless marriage, Kagane, with a heavy heart, left her side. While the marriage could be annulled, the ritual that had vastly extended his lifespan to match Silverleaf's could not be, and he could hardly bear to look ahead to the 600-800 years left in his life, alone.
The elk retreated back to his monastary, and dropped off of the radar of most everyone, submerging his anger and pain into the arts of medicine, learning to heal others of his pain, because he could not help his own. It was twenty long years before news of the opening northern frontier reached his ears, and with it, the realization he had hidden from the world long enough.
Forbidden Lands Events
Kagane came to Highwind Point and immediately set to work as a healer and teacher; initially hiring on with the newly completed doctor at the Taross Blackburn Memorial Hospital, his expertise in traditional and modern medicine complimenting well to Torin Blackburn's magical healing expertise. However, after six months of this, he sought out more gainful employment to suppliment his work, and was brought aboard the Alair household as a house doctor. This hiring by the hated Alairs enraged Torin, and Kagane was temporarily fired from the hospital, only to be accepted later on as an outside contractor for surgeries and his medical skills.
Around this time he met the Black Sorceress Te'Aela, and began to court her, her similarities in appearance to Silverleaf no doubt playing a considerable role. Six months after beginning to court, they married in a quiet, small ceremony, and they are expecting their first child.
As of the Summer Festival of 1027 AH, he is now the father of twins by Te'Aela.
Significant Achievments
The book "Teaching Methodologies" was a minor revolution in educational theory, and his name is familiar to most any professional educator throughout the empire.
Kagane is hailed as the doctor that provided the cure to the plague that was sweeping through the world in 1025-1027 AH, in the process of working on the cure in Soloatares, he discovered a book providing the fundamental basics of Aural Healing, a wholistic healing method combining magic, medicine, science, spirit, and even the soul, into a single school of medicine. Kagane is recognized as the Empire's first Aural Physician, and his publishing of his own and other's writings on the field have once again revolutionized the field of medicine world-wide.
A mere week after curing the plague, Kagane was responsible for resurrecting the corpse of Lord Benjamin Alair, restoring the shade-touched soul back to wholeness and life. This event was a church-recognized miracle, a recognition the humble elk is uncomfortable under.
