Mage's Guild
From SCross
The Imperial Guild of Magi (formerly known as the Holy Guild of Magi) is an institution in which mages are allowed to go and study within its walls. For the most part, the Guild acts as an arcane university, where prospective mages can learn the deeper intricacies of magic, as well as receive instruction that makes the practice of their art that much easier.
Likewise, as the Guild is now directly under the aegis of Emperor Highwind, a good portion of its resources is bent towards arcane research of many stripes, toward the betterment of both Highwind Point and the Empire as a whole. Certainly, at any given moment there is a great deal going on at the Guild. Enterprising young mages creating spells of dizzying power and versatility, magic-fueled research projects springing up seeming overnight, and even the odd close-quarters fighting classes, to provide a bit of self-deprecating humor.
Early on, through the efforts of Guildmaster Lord James Deneiborough, the Mages' Guild of Highwind Point has established themselves as a force working for the betterment of the community as a whole through their aid and donation to the people.
The Ranks of the Imperial Guild of Magi
- Novice
Anyone who has just joined the guild gains the rank of Novice, although they may not have it for long. The Novice, being the lowest of the food chain, works the hardest and gets the least breaks. Thankfully, most of their work consist of the basic principles of magic and learning how to cast various spells. Those of Novice rank usually spend almost all of their time in the guild to take classes and learn the very basics of magic. All Novices are provided their own small room within the cramped Novice Quarters and are expected to keep the bland looking units nice and orderly.
- Apprentice
At this rank the Novice actually decides upon his school of magic. A test is given by the order he or she wishes to join, and those that pass are admitted to the classes of their school. At this point education begins to differ slightly, although most of the time is still spend in classrooms.
- Intermediate
Upon passing a test designed by the order of magic the Apprentice follows they become an Intermediate. They spend a bit less time at the guild, going out and living relatively normal lives while studying and continuing to learn. Some Intermediates are assigned to monitor and teach those of the Novice rank, while others are left to their own devices most of the time. Classes are, unfortunately, still something that must be done.
- Advanced
An Advanced is someone who has passed all of the Intermediate tests and knows their school of magic very well. Advanced usually only attend classes held by Masters or Greaters, using other time to study on thier own. Advanced are expected to be able to reach the greater levels of magic mostly on their own, perfecting their magic in relative solitude.
- Master
To become a Master one must pass a test issued by a Greater or, in some cases, the head of the Master's chosen branch of magic. Quite a bit of effort is involved, but in the end the Advanced graduates to a Master. A Master is much like the Advanced, just with a greater grip upon the methods of the arcane. Masters are expected to teach classes and
- Greater
The highest rank one can hold that doesn't involve leadership of the guild or a branch of magic. Greaters are just as respected as Heads, and they serve in much the same manner. Greaters are usually devoted to research and uncovering the secrets of new magic for their chosen branch.
- Head
The leader of a branch of magic. They don't absolutely need to have been a Greater before this, but it usually works that way. The Head decides what kind of classes and tests are given, as well as other tasks that involve their school of magic. A Head is a management position more than a real rank, but they can be considered equal to Greaters and serve much of the same dutys.
- Guildmaster
The leader of the guild. He or she serves as the voice and ultimate authority. The Guildmaster is tasked with overseeing the health of the guild and making sure everything gets done. Usually a Greater, although the duties that go along with that are somewhat put off in favor of running the guild.
If one wishes to advance in the guild, please speak to your superior or the head of your branch to recieve testing.
