Mages Guild - COM
From SCross
The Imperial Guild of Magi (formerly known as the Holy Guild of Magi) is an institution in which mages are allowed to go and study within its walls. For the most part, the Guild acts as an arcane university, where prospective mages can learn the deeper intricacies of magic, as well as receive instruction that makes the practice of their art that much easier.
The Ranks of the Imperial Guild of Magi
- Apprentice
At this rank the Novice actually decides upon his school of magic. A test is given by the order he or she wishes to join, and those that pass are admitted to the classes of their school. At this point education begins to differ slightly, although most of the time is still spend in classrooms.
- Disciple
Upon passing a test designed by the order of magic the Apprentice follows they become a Disciple. They spend a bit less time at the guild, going out and living relatively normal lives while studying and continuing to learn. Some Disciples are assigned to monitor and teach those of the Novice rank, while others are left to their own devices most of the time. Classes are, unfortunately, still something that must be done.
- Adept
An Adept is someone who has passed all of the Disciple tests and knows their school of magic very well. Adepts usually only attend classes held by Masters or Greaters, using other time to study on their own. Adepts are expected to be able to reach the greater levels of magic mostly on their own, perfecting their magic in relative solitude.
- Master
To become a Master one must pass a test issued by a Greater or, in some cases, the head of the Master's chosen branch of magic. Quite a bit of effort is involved, but in the end the Advanced graduates to a Master. A Master is much like the Advanced, just with a greater grip upon the methods of the arcane. Masters are expected to teach classes and
- Head
The leader of a branch of magic. They don't absolutely need to have been a Greater before this, but it usually works that way. The Head decides what kind of classes and tests are given, as well as other tasks that involve their school of magic. A Head is a management position more than a real rank, but they can be considered equal to Greaters and serve much of the same duties.
- Guildmaster
The leader of the guild. He or she serves as the voice and ultimate authority. The Guildmaster is tasked with overseeing the health of the guild and making sure everything gets done. Usually a Greater, although the duties that go along with that are somewhat put off in favor of running the guild.
