House Skye

The Skye family originally came from the southern coast of the Empire, one of the minor nobility. They have always been craftsmen and artisans for as long as their house history was kept, and this did not change much even as they became more a part of politics within the Empire. Their early history in the Empire is but a footnote, their interest in engineering and metalwork could not peaceably exist in the Empire run by the Holy Church, especially with their proximity to Valente, and so they spent their time on their craftsmanship and working towards seeing more of the Empire.

After being able to afford their own airships, they nestled into the Empire's economy by expanding their craftsmanship into more of the mainland. Starting a small network of houses and getting a little bit of a reputation for their work. As the war with Wutai ended, the family was among the first to explore the as yet unknown island nation, sending a diplomatic party over. Within a few short months, a small wutaiin noble family had married into the Skye family, giving them some actual sway with the nobility there.

It was not until the creation of the Faithful Engineers however, that the family become more then a mere footnote. Suddenly with their calling no longer limited to Wutai, their presence swelled the ranks of the Faithful Engineers, applying themselves to learning the new 'approved' way of their preferred crafts. The Skye family was in almost every major project since joining in, putting their financial backing and expertise into their work.

At this time, another war with Wutai was already possible, and the house found itself in a bit of a quandary... their support for both sides of the war was drawn inwards, and they pledged themselves solely to rebuilding, but not attacking. Seeking to draw attention away from such conflict, when their contacts in the Merchant's Guild mentioned a new colony was being prepared to receive new people, they immediately sent representatives from their family. While not particularly highly ranked, Rikin and Valenoa Skye make the decisions for the family in the small colony.

The family crest, a red gryphon holding a flag with a red 'V', comes from the griffin's prowess in battle, no matter whether land or air. For them, it is a sign that no limitation will bar them from their goals. The V on the flag stands for voice, something they beleive their House should never falter in, remaining true to themselves.

Outlooks

'The Church': Origionating from near the Valente continent, they have very strong close ties and see this as important. Nobles who do not follow the standards of the Church are usually not de-nobled, but may be shifted off to a place where their presence does not affect things as much (ie, the outpost here)

'Government': All House members seem to have a healthy view of the Empire, but are torn during conflict due to the inclusion by marriage of a minor Wutaiin House, forcing them to tread carefully during conflict to not seem like they are favoring one yet not seeming disloyal in their duties either. They do allow their members to be drafted into the militaries, though they understand this one day might put two of their House units at odds, they have an interesting code of honor in this perhaps.

'Monsters': Ignorable if they don't cause trouble and nice if they are civilized. Otherwise, dead.

'Caste': Important; people should respect their better, but equally respect their own responsibilities to their lowers.

'Magic vs Technology': Most of Skye's members are on the technological side of things, unlike many noble houses in the Empire seem to be, giving them a unique perspective. While not 'bad', they do not prefer members getting heavily into the magic side of things, and make use of any machines that are allowable in their area.

'Resources': Traditionally split between things such as mines and gem mines, manufacturing, and entertainment ventures such as casinos. On the outpost this split will probably not be possible, so can differ significantly.

'Other Houses': They have only taken a minor role in politics, but at this point do not have any particularly allied or enemy Houses.

'Marriage': Marriages must be approved by the head of the House in the area, but they tend to not be strict over this unless the person is particularly uncivilized and unwilling to adapt. They greatly prefer for outsiders that marry in to take the Skye name in some form, whether male or female (or both).

Joining

Contact by muck-mail Tonya on the muck. Members can have the Wutai or Valente native merit if they come from those places, or can be married into the House as part of their background. We encourage crafter types, so of course engineers and the like are also smiled upon. Other types of characters are welcome as well as long as they tend to help the main goal of the House; this is meant to be a unique House with unique and different goals, looking for people who are both good RPers and have a general knowledge of theme, but we will not OOCly give you a mold and try to stuff you into it. New users welcome, as we like to help people learn the system! Please try to stay active as we would like to be an active House.

Note: All members of House Skye take a vow to keep all House matters private. This means that if you become aware of another House member doing something illegal it should be brought to the attention of the head of House so they can be dismissed from the House before the matter is brought to public light. Furthermore any matters that are personal but not illegal (anything that can be used by other houses for rumor fodder whether it involves yourself or another house member) is to be kept absolutely secret. Breaking this vow can result in immediate removal from the House or other things. This vow is not nullified by choosing to leave the House.
