Steff Blackburn-Demious

A young woman of feline lineage, originally from one of the Empire's outlying villages during the war with Wutai under Emperor Cid Highwind. It was due to this war that Steff found herself without parents at a very young age, a raid by Wutaiin forces having seen her parents along with the better part of her home village murdered. Quite probably the young girl would have died were it not for the intervention of Imperial relief forces that, although arriving too late to save the village, were at least in time for their leader to take Steff as his own daughter.
This newfound, and quite happy relationship was not to last either however as, thanks to another fight with Wutaiin forces before Steff could be taken to safety, her adoptive father was wounded and the two of them separated from the rest of his forces. The man did teach Steff a lot about looking out for herself in the wild, but he left her alone also, his life taken by a slow illness brought on by his injury some time later, and Steff retreating to a life almost entirely devoid of human contact for a long time to come.
Only by chance meeting was she brought to the capital city, there to be finally adopted a second time by the Lady Torin Blackburn and her spouses. Some time after this she was to meet the newly arrived schoolmaster Pendant, who after sometime spent working at remedying her lack of linguistic skills - a task he continues this day - was to become her husband; the two of them officially joining House Blackburn on the long awaited authorisation of Steff's adoption by the head of House Blackburn at the time of his death.
Now, a decade later and having born a daughter - Fuerte, who is now ten years old - Steff has travelled along with the rest of her immediate family northward to the colony of Highwind Point, as they seek some small refuge from the political lunacy of the Capitol. Personally, she has no huge goals beyond the accompaniment of her family however.

Personality: Quite inquisitive and curious, however, Steff is a little slow and simple-minded, at times even somewhat immature - though in the care of her daughter this is rarely the case, motherly instinct coming to her almost as naturally as breathing. At times, she can also be a little stubborn - especially when brought to fighting. She also is sometimes rather loud when inquiring about something she doesn't understand - especially if no explanation is forthcoming.
